Police search for driver who hit, seriously injured crossing guard

Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that hit and seriously injured a school crossing guard on the Far South Side on Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 4 p.m., a 27-year-old woman working as a crossing guard at the intersection of 127th Street and Union in West Pullman was hit by an SUV traveling “at a high rate of speed,” according to an alert from police.

Children were crossing the street when the crossing guard was hit, police said. The driver fled the scene without stopping to help the woman.

The vehicle that hit the woman was described as a black or dark-colored SUV that was last seen heading west on 127th Street and then north on Emerald, police said.
