Michael Cozzi and his parents, Vincent and Angeline Cozzi, who are in their 80s, filed the suit Monday in U.S. District Court against Melrose Park and Serpico. The Cozzis allege that, since December 2020, Melrose Park police officers have unfairly targeted their home for perceived municipal code violations at Serpico’s direction.
Young was undressed and getting ready for bed when several Chicago police officers came into her Near West Side home, announcing a raid on Feb. 21, 2019.
Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) said Chicago Police Supt. David Brown is “of no value” and should go. Ald. Anthony Beale (9th) wants hearings to get “straight answers” from the mayor and police about failures identified in Inspector General Joseph Ferguson’s new report.
Officers were “outflanked, under-equipped and unprepared” and the Chicago Police Department “critically disserved both its own front-line members and members of the public,” says the report, which one alderman called a “complete shock.”
“If I just leave it, think anyone will notice?” joked an Irving Park man who’s car got stuck in the snow Tuesday morning.
“Our building engineers and facilities team have been working diligently to clear sidewalks and parking lots of snow and ensure all school buildings are warm, safe, and fully ready to welcome students and staff back to school,” the district wrote in an email to parents.
Jason Coleman’s career with the Chicago Police Department ended when he resigned in July 2020, less than two months after he was involved in a skirmish with on-duty officers near his West Englewood home. He’s set to graduate from the Chicago Fire Department academy on Feb. 16.
First-term union president John Catanzara will face a hearing later this month over obscene and inflammatory posts he made to social media before his election. Additionally, Catanzara faces charges related to a criminal complaint he filed against former Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson and Cmdr. Ronald Pontecore Jr.
It remains unclear, though, how the Chicago Police Department’s compliance will be graded, as the independent monitoring team is compiling its latest report. In the second report, released last summer, the CPD was found to have missed 70% of its consent decree-related deadlines.
