More casting for Lyric Opera’s “Carousel”

Lyric Opera of Chicago has announced additional casting for its upcoming production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel,” set to run April 10-May 3.

Jenn Gambatese, who starred as Maria in Lyric’s production of “The Sound of Music” last May will play the role of Carrie Pipperidge, best friend of millworker Julie Jordan (to be played by the already announced Laura Osnes). Steven Pasquale, will play Julie’s big love, carnival barker Billy Bigelow, with opera star Denyce Graves making her musical theater debut as Nettie Fowler in this production to be directed and choreographed by Rob Ashford.

On Broadway, Gambatese created the role of Jane/Disney’s “Tarzan,” and Natalie in “All Shook Up.” She

starred as Glinda in the first national tour of “Wicked.”
