A valve leak caused a tanker truck to spill hydrochloric acid Thursday morning in south suburban Lansing.
Firefighters responded to the incident about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of 175th Street and Chicago Avenue, according to a statement from the Village of Lansing.
The spill, thought to have occurred between 4:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., was contained by HazMat workers and later cleaned up by a private company, the statement said.
“At no time was there a risk to our residents or our water supply,” village spokesman Fabian Newman said in the statement.
Streets were reopened to traffic at 9 a.m. and no injuries or environmental damage were reported.
