A 17-year-old boy was killed in a Gage Park neighborhood shooting on the South Side Friday evening.

About 7:30 p.m., Walter L. Wright was in the 5800 block of South Western when a gunman approached and shot him in the chest, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Wright, of the 5300 block of South May, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m., authorities said. An autopsy has been scheduled for Sunday.

A police source said the teen had documented gang ties.
