(OAK FOREST) Police are searching for a driver who ran away after crashing a stolen SUV into a utility pole early Thursday in south suburban Oak Forest.

The vehicle was speeding when it crashed into the utility pole and flipped over about 2:30 a.m. near 155th and Cicero, said Oak Forest Police Sgt. Scott Durano.

The driver ran away after the crash and the vehicle was reported stolen out of Markham, he said.

About 1,600 ComEd customers lost power after the utility pole went down in the crash, spokeswoman Liz Keating said. Power was fully restored by about 3:15 a.m.

Durano said officers with the Oak Forest Police Department were searching the area for the driver.
