A man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in the South Side Grand Boulevard neighborhood.

About 1:40 p.m., the 23-year-old man was walking in the 600 block of East 51st Street when a person approached him from behind and shot him in the head, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family, the medical examiner’s office said.
