Rockford man found shot to death in Bridgeport

A man who was found shot to death early Thursday in the South Side Bridgeport neighborhood was identified as a 20-year-old resident of Rockford.

About 3 a.m., officers found Israel C. Pena unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest in the 1200 block of West 32nd Street, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Pena, of the 800 block of Montague Street in Rockford, was dead at the scene, authorities said.

More details were not known Thursday night.
