Westmont man found guilty of killing father in 2011

A DuPage County jury has found a Westmont man guilty of stabbing his 63-year-old father to death in 2011.

The jury returned the guilty verdict against 35-year-old William V. Clifford Friday after about two hours of deliberation, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Police responding to reports of a fight at 1:07 p.m. on May 28, 2011, found 63-year-old William Clifford, Sr., lying in the hallway and bleeding from the upper body on the third floor of Westmont’s Homestead Studio Suites, 855 Pasquinelli Drive, the Sun-Times reported at the time. He was later pronounced dead at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Clifford, Sr., had gone to his son’s home to visit him, prosecutors said. During the visit, a fight broke out and the younger Clifford stabbed his father repeatedly in the upper body.

He left the scene but returned several hours later and was arrested without incident by Westmont police, the state’s attorney’s office said.

Clifford’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27 for post-trial motions, prosecutors said. He faces a sentence of 20 to 60 years in prison.
