State police find 3 pounds of pot during Joliet traffic stop

A California man is facing drug charges after a search of his car turned up more than three pounds of pot during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon in southwest suburban Joliet.

An Illinois State Police District 05 trooper pulled over a 2014 Kia for speeding and having an obstructed windshield at 3:28 p.m. on I-80 near Larkin Avenue, according to a statement from state police.

After officers spoke with the driver and passenger, a police dog was brought in to sniff the vehicle and indicated the presence of drugs, police said. A search of the car uncovered 3.14 pounds of marijuana.

The vehicle belonged to the passenger, 31-year-old Jacob M. Stepek of Willow Creek, California, police said.

Stepek is charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, police said. He was taken to the Will County Jail to await a bond hearing.
