Woman, four police officers injured in Berwyn fire

(BERWYN) A woman and four police officers were injured in a fire early Wednesday in west suburban Berwyn.

Crews were called to the scene of a fire at an apartment building in the 3200 block of Maple shortly after 1 a.m., Berwyn Fire Department officials said.

The fire had been extinguished and all crews had left the scene by 4:15 a.m., fire officials said.

One resident injured in the fire was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with burns, Fire Chief Denis O’Halloran told a reporter at the scene.

Fire officials said she was a woman thought to be in her 40s.

Four Berwyn police officers hurt in the fire were treated for minor injuries and released from area hospitals, fire officials said.
