Weekend construction to suspend part of CTA Green line

Construction will suspend “L” service Sunday morning on parts of the CTA Green Line.

Green Line service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations will be temporarily suspended Sunday morning from 1:40 a.m. to 11:40 a.m., the CTA said. Crews will continue working on the construction of the new Cermak-McCormick Place station.

Rail service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations will again be suspended next weekend, Saturday, Jan. 17 and Sunday, Jan. 18, the CTA said.

The future Green Line station at Cermak will fill a gap in service between the existing Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations and provide access to rail transit for neighborhood residents and businesses, including McCormick Place.

The completed station will feature elevators, bike racks, “state-of-the-art” security, enclosed boarding platforms and three entrances, according to the CTA. Work on the $50 million construction project began last fall and is managed by the Chicago Department of Transportation.
