Bears’ Lamarr Houston: ‘If I don’t play here, I’ll play somewhere else’

After another game seemingly glued to the sideline, outside linebacker Lamarr Houston claimed he wasn’t frustrated with his role on the Bears.

“You can only control what you can control,” he told the Sun-Times on Sunday.

Still, he wouldn’t rule out his camp asking for a trade before Tuesday’s league-wide deadline — though they had not done so yet.

“That’s enough time for anything to happen,” he said. “Who knows? I don’t work in the front office and I’m not an agent. I’m just a player.”

Former Bears GM Phil Emery signed Houston to a five-year, $35 million deal in 2014. He played eight games last season before tearing his knee during a sack dance celebration.

The team moved him from defensive end to better fit the 3-4 scheme, but Houston played only 115 of the team’s 383 defensive downs before Sunday.

He said he was not worried about Tuesday’s deadline.

“I have no concerns,” he said. “If I don’t play here, I’ll play somewhere else, simple as that.”
