Bears running back Matt Forte returned to practice at Halas Hall on Wednesday, but only in limited fashion because of a strained ligament in his right knee. At this point, he’s still not expected to play against the Rams.

“He’s been through it before,” coach John Fox said. “Like a lot of players that have had similar injuries, they understand it and know how to rehab it better the second time around. He’s still day-to-day, we’ll kind of evaluate him. He’s not full-go yet, but he’s making progress.”

Rookie running back Jeremy Langford starred in Forte’s place in San Diego. Langford totaled 142 yards of offense, had a one-yard touchdown run and ran in a two-point conversion in the Bears’ 22-19 against the Chargers.

“I thought he did very good,” Fox said. “I mentioned Monday night after the game I thought he performed well in all parts of his duties, both as a pass receiver as well as a runner.”

In other injury news, outside linebacker Pernell McPhee (knee) and safety Antrel Rolle (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said McPhee pulled himself out late against the Chargers because his knee was bothering him.
