Former Illinois player Jereme Richmond has been signed by the Delaware 87ers of the NBA’s D-League.

Richmond, 23, starred for Waukegan but a series of legal problems derailed his basketball career and landed him in prison in 2014.

The 6-7 wing man played one season at Illinois before declaring for the 2011 NBA Draft, but he went undrafted.

The former Illinois Mr. Basketball will open the season on Saturday against Grand Rapids and some familiar Chicago-area foes—Ryan Boatright, Stefhon Hannah and Sam Thompson.
