A man was shot while collecting signatures for a politician Sunday afternoon on the South Side.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 7900 block of South Halsted at 12:25 p.m., according to Chicago Police.

A short time later, a 42-year-old man called 911 and said he was shot in the leg during a robbery, police said. He was taken in good condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The victim was collecting signatures for an elected official when the shooting happened, according to a police source.
