Notre Dame falls out of College Football Playoff top four

After another week of craziness, Notre Dame moves a step closer to finding out how their season will finish. In the most recent College Football Playoff Ranking, Notre Dame fell out of the four team playoff. The Fighting Irish dropped from No. 4 to No. 6 in the rankings.

Notre Dame spent the last two weeks in the fourth position. This is their worst ranking in the CFP Poll all season.

As has been the case after each of the previous three CFP rankings, there are a few big games left to decide who will contend in the playoffs. Notre Dame finishes their season Saturday against Stanford, in a game that could make a big difference. Stanford sits at No. 9 in the new rankings.

Ahead of Notre Dame, Michigan State at No. 5 will play Penn State and, if they win, Iowa in the Big Ten title game. Iowa will play Nebraska this week before the conference championship.

Oklahoma’s season is over after this weekend’s game against Oklahoma State. Clemson plays South Carolina before the ACC championship against North Carolina. Alabama plays Auburn and with a win they will play Florida for the SEC title.

Northwestern moved up four spots from last week to No. 16 after their upset win over Wisconsin on the road. Their season will end next week after playing Illinois.

All told, the Big Ten put five teams in the top 25. Ohio State fell to No. 8 and Michigan jumped to No. 10.
