The website for the Chicago chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police posted a news item Wednesday, telling people how to raise bail money for Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke.
The posting comes a day after an online GoFundMe page, also seeking donations for Van Dyke, was taken down; that effort had raised about $10,000 of an $80,000 goal.
The FOP posting reads: “Anyone wishing to donate to the JVD Bond Fund may do so at any of the four locations of the Chicago Patrolmen’s Federal Credit Union.”
The posting asks donors to write checks out to Van Dyke’s wife, Tiffany Van Dyke.
GoFundMe administrators pulled the plug on the Van Dyke page Tuesday afternoon, explaining that the fundraising effort violated company rules and promising to refund all donations.
Jason Van Dyke is currently being held on no bail, but a Cook County judge is expected to revisit the issues on Monday.
An FOP spokesman didn’t return a call or email seeking comment.
