A west suburban man was charged with DUI after he passed a police car and the officer could smell marijuana through the car’s open windows in west suburban Riverside.
Jack P. Giacoma, 20, of the 1600 block of North 78th Avenue in Elmwood Park, was charged with DUI, DUI drugs, driving an uninsured car and illegal transportation of open alcohol, according to a statement from Riverside Police.
Two 19-year-old men, both of Berwyn who were in the vehicle with Giacoma, were also charged with possession of alcohol by a minor and were cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the statement.
At 1:25 p.m. Thursday, a police officer had the car pass her, and she could smell marijuana coming from the car. The officer pulled the car over in the 200 block of Shenstone Road in Riverside, and smelled alcohol on Giacoma’s breath and marijuana in the car, according to the statement.
The officer asked Giacoma to get out of the car and perform field sobriety tests, which he failed and at one point needed support to stand, according to the statement.
The two other men were also asked to step out of the car, and the officer found that they had open alcohol, a grinder for marijuana, and marijuana, according to the statement.
The men admitted to smoking marijuana before getting into the car and while the car was driving through residential streets, according to the statement.
