A man was fatally shot Friday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Hommy Vega, 36, was sitting in a vehicle about 1:20 p.m. in the 0-100 block of North Hamlin Boulevard when someone fired shots, hitting him in the right side of the chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Vega, of the 1300 block of West Chicago Avenue, was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:58 p.m., authorities said.
