State child welfare officials and Chicago Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl Sunday in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.
The girl was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:21 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She lived in the 6500 block of South Sangamon.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
DCFS is investigating the girl’s parents for allegations of abuse and neglect, agency spokeswoman Veronica Resa said. The investigation is pending, and no other children are in the home.
Area South detectives are also conducting a death investigation.
