Two hurt in Jeffery Manor drive-by shooting

A man and a teenage boy were injured in a drive-by shooting Tuesday night in the South Side Jeffery Manor neighborhood.

The 20-year-old man was sitting in the back of a parked Jeep with some friends in the 9600 block of South Brennan about 8:45 p.m. when someone from a passing Chevrolet Impala opened fire, hitting him in the right thigh, police said.

The driver of the Jeep tried to drive away and the Jeep hit a tree in the same block, police said. The man who was shot then walked to the 9700 block of South Van Vlissingen Road and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized.

A 16-year-old boy was walking by on the sidewalk in the 9600 block of South Brennan at the time of the shooting when he heard shots and felt pain, police said.

A family member took him to Advocate Trinity Hospital, and he was transferred to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital and then to Stroger Hospital, according to police. He was shot in the back and left hip and his condition was stabilized.

A police source said the man and boy are both documented gang members.
