Elgin police arrested a man Wednesday for violating the terms of his sex offender registration.
Officers went to a house in the 1200 block of Hathaway Circle in Elgin on Oct. 30 to check on 58-year-old Francisco Monterrubio, according to a statement from Elgin police. Monterrubio is a convicted sex offender who must register annually for life.
Police routinely conduct such checks to verify that offenders’ registration information is correct, police said. When officers arrived at the home, a resident told them Monterrubio did not live there. Further investigation revealed he had given false information when he registered and was actually living in Chicago.
Elgin police found Monterrubio on Wednesday and took him into custody without incident, according to the statement. He was charged with violating the Sexual Offender Registration Act, a Class 3 felony, and ordered held on a $10,000 bond.
