Man charged with burglary, attempted robbery in Westmont home

A Chicago man has been charged with breaking into a west suburban home and trying to rob the homeowner Friday night in Westmont.

Authorities were called late Friday night with reports of a homeowner fighting with an intruder on Park Street in unincorporated Westmont, according to a statement from the DuPage County sheriff’s office.

Malik Jones, 19, had entered the home and was trying to rob the resident, the sheriff’s office said. He was arrested and charged with one count each of attempted aggravated robbery and burglary.

Jones, who lives in Chicago, is being held at the DuPage County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
