No one was injured in a fire that forced 12 people out of their South Side home early Wednesday.
The fire was reported at 12:40 a.m. at a building in the 7100 block of South Sangamon, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.
The fire was out within a half-hour, and crews were gone by 1:40 a.m., Langford said.
The building was moderately damaged, Langford said. No one was injured but a dozen people were displaced. Their ages and genders were not available.
Jevonne Coleman, who said he lives in the basement, was identified by neighbors as the person who woke people up when he realized there was a fire. He told reporters at the scene that the power was out in the building, and a candle being used for light may have caused the fire.
Langford said a preliminary cause had not been identified early Wednesday.
