A man was critically injured Friday night when he was shot inside a vehicle in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The shooting happened in the 5300 block of West Jackson at 7:15 p.m., police said.

The man, 23, was in a vehicle when another vehicle pulled up, and someone exited and fired shots, police said.

The man was shot in his hip or groin and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is in critical condition, police said.

A source said the victim is a documented gang member.
