Man charged with fatal stabbing in Back of the Yards

A man has been charged with stabbing another man to death Saturday afternoon during a domestic dispute in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Vicente Salgado, 39, is charged with first-degree murder, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Juan Martinez, 40, was standing outside with his girlfriend about 4:10 p.m. in the 2000 block of West 47th Street when the couple was confronted by Salgado, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Salgado pulled out a knife and stabbed Martinez multiple times, authorities said. Martinez’s girlfriend was not injured.

Martinez, of the 4600 block of North Central Park, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:41 p.m., authorities said.

Police said the attack was domestic-related, but did not provide additional details.

Salgado, of the 4500 block of South Honore, is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.
