Carol Burnett surprises local singer

Talk about a great treat! Carol Burnett (who just turned 82) gave local singer Hilary Ann Feldman quite the nice surprise the other day. When the comedy legend heard about Feldman’s upcoming “Laughing Matters: The Life and Laughs of Carol Burnett” show, she picked up the phone and called Feldman.

Turns out, Burnett heard about the show from her longtime sketch writer and music director Ken Welch, who had been working with Feldman on some aspects of her new show. He was so impressed with Feldman’s approach, he told Burnett about it — leading to that special, very encouraging call.

Feldman had approached Welch originally to get permission to use sketches and musical pieces he had created for Burnett.

Needless to say, Feldman says that call from the veteran entertainer is one she will never forget!

“Laughing Matters: The Life and Laughs of Carol Burnett” will be performed at Davenport’s, 1383 N. Milwaukee, on three consecutive Saturdays: May 9, 16 and 23. For reservations, call (773) 278-1830, or go to DavenportsPianoBar.com.
