Man, 68, fatally struck by van in Englewood

A 68-year-old man was struck by a van Monday evening in the Englewood and died the next morning.

Wallace Mays Jr. was struck by a van in the 6300 block of South Wells at 5 p.m. Monday, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Mays, of the 6400 block of South Yale, was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:56 a.m. Tuesday, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene, but it was not immediately known if they were charged or cited.

An autopsy Thursday found Mays died of head injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle, and his death was ruled an accident.
