Bloom hires alum Dante Maddox

Bloom reached into its past to try to secure a bright future for its boys basketball program.

Dante Maddox, a 1993 graduate of Bloom, has been named the Blazing Trojans’ new coach.

Maddox succeeds Ron Ashlaw, who resigned after two seasons at the Chicago Heights school. The Blazing Trojans finished 8-21 in 2014-15.

A motorist in a Ford F-150 was attempting to make a left turn in the 6100 block of South Archer Avenue on Sunday when he struck the couple as they were in a crosswalk, police said.
Trivell Pruitt, 53, is suspected of shooting two people, one fatally, on Monday outside a strip of stores in the 7100 block of South State Street. Pruitt was shot and wounded by another shooter who remains at large.
