Joey Alexander, an 11-year-old jazz pianist who has won applause from Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock, will make his Midwest debut in a Ravinia concert later this summer.

The Highland Park venue announced Thursday that the Bali-born boy will perform Sept. 11 as part of the $10 Bennett Gordon Hall Classics series. The start time is 6 p.m., allowing for a proper bedtime.

Marsalis, who discovered Alexander on Youtube, bought him to New York last year to play at his Jazz at Lincoln Center series. The pianist’s first album, “My Favorite Things,” came out in May, and the New York Times said it reveals him to be “a thoughtful musician as well as a natural one, with a sophisticated harmonic palette and a dynamic sensitivity.”

Tickets are available now at Ravinia.org.
