The death of a one-month-old south suburban boy Wednesday has been ruled a homicide.
Robert Jamal James Phipps was pronounced dead at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island at 5:07 p.m. Wednesday, according to authorities.
An autopsy found the baby, who lived in the 1200 block of West 127th Street in Calumet Park, died of multiple injuries from child abuse and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office..
DCFS is investigating the baby’s parents for allegations of neglect, according to spokesman Andrew Flach.
The parents were previously indicated for inadequate supervision of another child in the family, Flach said. That child is staying with relatives under a DCFS-monitored safety plan.
Calumet Park police declined to provide information when reached by phone Thursday afternoon.
