KENOSHA, Wis. — Police said a Kenosha woman killed her two children in a premeditated attack and then tried to kill herself.
Kenosha Police Chief John Morrissey said at a news conference Sunday that authorities think the children, ages 1 and 3, were medicated and suffocated.
He said their mother was found with self-inflicted stab wounds. Autopsies are scheduled for Monday.
Morrissey said police found a journal the mother left outlining the crime. He said she also sent a package to her sister describing her plans. It arrived on Sunday.
The woman was released from a hospital and was in custody at the Kenosha County jail. Morrissey said police will refer homicide charges to prosecutors. The Associated Press isn’t naming the woman because she hasn’t been formally charged.
Police said the father wasn’t a suspect.
