Fresh off a season where the Big Ten conference sent a pair of teams to the Final Four, they only have one representative among the Sporting News first team All-Americans.

Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes, the best returning player for the defending conference champions, received the honor after a season where he averaged more than 12 points-per-game.

For as good as the forward played last season, he will be in a new role for the Badgers this year. Gone are Sam Dekker and Frank Kaminsky, putting the weight squarely on Hayes.

Joining Hayes on the first team is Wichita State’s Ron Baker, Virginia’s Malcolm Brogdon, Iowa State’s Georges Niang, and North Carolina’s Marcus Paige.

Outside of the first team, the Big Ten featured Indiana’s Yogi Ferrell on the second team, and Maryland’s Melo Trimble on the third team.
