After his two-year stint with the Bears, most insiders conceded Marc Trestman was not head-coach material—at least not in this country—but still possessed a good enough offensive mind to help a team as a coordinator or assistant.

After Trestman’s debut as the Raven’s offensive coordinator, that’s up for debate.

In Week 1, the Ravens were the only team in the league to gain less than 200 yards of total offense and were one of only three teams to not score an offensive touchdown.

The pass-happy Trestman threw the ball 32 times for 100 yards and ran 23 times for 73 yards in the 19-16 loss to the Broncos.

From ESPN:

This also marked the worst debut of any Ravens offensive coordinator. There have been six coaches who previously held the title of offensive coordinator for the Ravens — Matt Canvaugh, Jim Fassel, Rick Neuheisel, Cam Cameron, Jim Caldwell and Gary Kubiak — and only Cavanaugh (223 yards) and Caldwell (278) watched their offenses get held below 300 yards in their first games as playcallers.

Trestman’s woes did not go unnoticed by writers around the league.
