Prospect Heights teachers on strike

Teachers in a school district in suburban Prospect Heights have gone on strike, closing schools in the district of roughly 1,500 students.

The Daily Herald reports schools are closed Wednesday in Prospect Heights School District 23 for the first teachers strike in its history. School board president Mari-Lynn Peters says teachers walked out of contract talks after they broke down after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Bob Miller, president of the district’s teachers union, told WGN-TV that the strike will likely last at least two days. Contract negotiations have gone on since March.

The district has three elementary schools and one middle school, and covers parts of Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Wheeling.
