A teenage boy was wounded in a shooting Friday morning in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The 14-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle his father was driving northbound on Jeffery near 83rd Street when multiple gunshots rang out about 7:16 a.m., police said.

The boy told his father he’d been hit, and he was driven to Advocate Trinity Hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper right back. He was later transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. His condition has been stabilized.

The boy did not appear to have been the intended target of the shooting, according to police.
