Bears cut Brock Vereen, add special teams help

One day after trading a Phil Emery draft pick, Bears GM Ryan Pace cut another.

This time, it was safety Brock Vereen — who Emery traded up to draft in the fourth round in 2014 — who was waived by the team. He was ostensibly replaced by safety Chris Prosinski, who the Bears signed Tuesday. The team also added linebacker LaRoy Reynolds.

Prosinski made nine starts and played in 56 games for the Jaguars from 2011-14, and the Eagles later in the 2014 season. He will be expected to bolster the Bears’ special teams, having 27 career tackles in that role.

Reynolds played for the Jaguars from 2013-15, appearing in 30 games and also contributing on special teams.

The Bears’ special teams unit can use all the help it can get; opponents have returned kickoffs for touchdowns in each of the past two games.

Vereen played 1n 19 games since his selection, starting four times. He was beaten by tight end Jimmy Graham for a touchdown Sunday in Seattle.
