A 23-year-old man was found shot to death after crashing his vehicle Tuesday afternoon in northwest Indiana.

Shanton L. Caprue was found lying down in a vehicle that had struck a fire hydrant in the 14100 block of Grace Street about 3:10 p.m., according to East Chicago police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

The victim was shot by someone in another vehicle, police said. He may have exchanged gunfire with the shooter.

Caprue, of the 4000 block of Catalpa Street in East Chicago, suffered multiple gunshot wounds was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

No one is in custody as of Wednesday morning. Anyone with information should call Detective Fife at (219) 391-8318.
