A 16-year-old boy was injured in a shooting Saturday morning in northwest suburban Elgin.
Police were called to the 300 block of St. Charles Street about 6:45 a.m. for reports of shots fired, according to a statement from Elgin police. While officers were investigating, they were notified about a gunshot victim in the emergency room at Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
The victim told officers he and two friends had been driving in the 300 block of St. Charles when a male fired at them, police said. The boy was shot in the leg, and was driven to the hospital. His injury is not though to be life-threatening.
