A man was charged with DUI after he crashed his car into several parked vehicles early Sunday in north suburban Niles, according to police.

Darrel N. Gatewood, 43, was driving his 2006 Volkswagen north in the 8500 block of Milwaukee Avenue about 4:10 a.m. when the car crashed into six parked vehicles, then rolled over, according to a statement from Niles police.

Gatewood, of the 8900 block of Knight Avenue in Des Plaines, refused medical attention at the scene and was arrested, police said.

He was charged with DUI, and was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating a vehicle without proof of insurance, police said. He is next scheduled to appear in court Nov. 3 in Skokie.

Milwaukee Avenue was closed for about 50 minutes after the crash for investigation and cleanup.
