Man arrested after loaded gun found in carry-on at Midway

A man was arrested Thursday morning after a loaded handgun was found in his carry-on bag at Midway International Airport.

TSA officers found the 9mm handgun in the 63-year-old man’s carry-on luggage during a screening about 11:30 a.m., according to a statement from the agency. The gun was loaded and had one round chambered.

Thomas Gillespie of Indiana was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm at an airport, according to Chicago Police.

This is the ninth firearm found in carry-on luggage at Midway this year, according to the TSA. There have been 10 firearms discovered in bags at O’Hare this year.
