Man shot in Heart of Chicago

A man was wounded in a shooting early Thursday in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the South Side.

The 22-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle about 3 a.m. in the 1900 block of South Damen when another vehicle pulled up alongside and an occupant fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was driven to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.

The man, who apparently took his own life inside the building in the 4100 block of West Chicago Avenue had been the subject of more than 40 calls for service since January 2022, a police department source told the Sun-Times.
