Temporary lane and ramp closures were scheduled to begin Tuesday on the inbound Kennedy Expressway on the Northwest Side.

Preliminary work on an expressway improvement project will require the closures, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Lanes on Interstate 90/94 will be closed between Cumberland and Harlem avenues for the project. Closures are also expected for the ramp from Cumberland Avenue to the inbound Kennedy Expressway and the right shoulder of the inbound Kennedy.

The project will construct an additional lane on the inbound Kennedy from Cumberland to Harlem, IDOT said. New retaining walls and lighting will also be added.

Motorists should expect delays.
