Five burglaries reported in Belmont Cragin in last two weeks

Five home burglaries have been reported in the last two weeks in the Northwest Side Belmont Cragin neighborhood.

The suspect forcibly enters the front or back door of a home, or climbs in through an unlocked window and takes miscellaneous property, according to a community alert from Area North detectives.

The burglaries happened:

  • between 8 a.m. April 28 and 11 p.m. April 29 in the 2400 block of North Leclaire;
  • between 6 p.m. April 29 and 2 p.m. April 30 in the 4900 block of West George;
  • between 1:40-2 p.m. May 1 in the 5000 block of West Deming;
  • at 3 p.m. May 8 in the 5000 block of West Drummond; and
  • at 5:30 a.m. May 9 and again at 7 a.m. May 10 in the 4900 block of West Nelson.

After one of the burglaries, the suspect was seen leaving the area carrying a bag filled with miscellaneous items, police said. He was described a black male between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot, and 150-170 pounds with short black hair and dark complexion.
