A man was shot early Tuesday in the South Shore neighborhood.

The 23-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 2000 block of East 71st Street about 12:40 a.m. when a male inside a red SUV opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

The man was shot in the right foot and later showed up at Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
