Bond was set at $5 million for a man charged with two sexual assaults that happened last week in southwest suburban Joliet and Channahon and suspected in other similar assaults in Illinois, authorities said.

Miguel Luna, 35, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated battery by strangulation, aggravated battery in a public place and unlawful restraint, according to the Will County sheriff’s office.

A female who had been jogging on the forest preserve trail near Frontage Road and I-55 in Channahon Township was reported missing Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office. Officers found her in the 22000 block of SW Frontage Road and learned she had been sexually assaulted by a man on the trail under I-55.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man wearing sunglasses and a bandana over his face, according to the sheriff’s office. Detectives connected the assault to another that happened Wednesday near Brandon Road and Route 6 in Joliet.

They identified Luna as a suspect and he was pulled over on a traffic stop and taken into custody for driving while license suspended. He was taken to the sheriff’s office, where he confessed to both of the sexual assaults.

Illinois State Police were investigating similar cases and have also charged Luna. A spokesperson for ISP did not immediately respond to a request for information.

Luna, of Joliet, was ordered held on a $5 million Monday, according to the sheriff’s office. His next court date was not immediately available.
