Woman fatally struck by car in Volo identified

A 22-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car early Thursday in north suburban Volo.

Stephanie V. Kostenko was struck by a 2008 Ford Mustang heading south on Route 12 near Route 120 at 2:38 a.m., according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Kostenko, of Lake Zurich, was dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. An autopsy Friday found she died of multiple injuries from being struck by a vehicle.

The Lake County sheriff’s office Technical Crash Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the crash, including why she was in the road.
