Jon Lester has been an every-other-month ace for Cubs

Jon Lester has been an on-again, off-again ace for the Cubs since his acquisition last offseason.

The Cubs’ $155 million man was worth the investment in May and July of this season. He went 4-1 with a 1.76 ERA in May and 2-2 with a 1.66 ERA in July.

His ERA in April, June and August, though? Respectively: 6.23, 5.74 and 6.32.

Lester has been awful every other month and unhittable the rest of the time.

ESPN made light of his struggles in this graph, featuring a blue “W” that’s familiar to Cubs fans:

The good news for Cubs fans is that Lester should be back on his game in the final month of the season, when the Cubs are in the final weeks of a playoff race.

The bad news? Lester would cool again when the playoffs actually begin.
