Man shot to death near home in Berwyn

A 25-year-old man died early Saturday after being shot near his west suburban Berwyn home.

About 2:30 a.m., officers responding to multiple calls of shots fired in the 1800 block of Gunderson Avenue found Daniel Oscar Ortiz on the ground with gunshot wounds, according Berwyn police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was dead at the scene, authorities said. An autopsy Sunday found Ortiz, who lived in the same block where he was shot, died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews, but no suspects were in custody as of MOnday early Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information should call the Criminal Investigations Unit at (708) 795-5600.
